Difficulty levels of Corsican canyons

We remind you that canyoning is a whitewater sport that takes place in a specific natural environment and that the risk of accident remains present despite instructor supervision.
We ask participants to be in good physical condition, know how to swim and have no health problems. No jump is mandatory.

We offer several types of canyoning which have very different levels:

  • Discovery Canyons which are true beginner canyons
  • Family Canyons to enjoy the activity with children
  • Sport Canyons
  • Tavignano, Grand Vecchio, two separate descents

Discovery Canyons: are beginner canyons that require no particular experience.

  • These canyons take place over half a day
  • Jumps are never mandatory, the highest jumps do not exceed 8 meters
  • Rappel descents are few (3 maximum per descent) and do not exceed 15 meters. On the other hand, some rappels cannot be bypassed, they are therefore mandatory. The instructor is of course there to explain, reassure and secure you.
  • Canyoning is a physical and sporting activity and even beginner canyons require good physical condition
  • Swimming is mandatory
  • All these canyons feature approach walks on very steep mountain terrain.

FFME Classification

To better understand the classification of Corsican canyons, you need to know the standardized framework proposed by the French Federation of Mountaineering and Climbing (FFME).
This ranking system proposes three entries to frame canyons:

the first is verticality ( V ) of passages and rope use. The scale ranges from 1 to 7.

the second is the aquatic aspect ( A ) of the portions. The scale also ranges from 1 to 7.

the last data is relative to the commitment of passages and the scope of the canyon; the scale is graduated in Roman numerals from I to VI.

For the canyons we offer, this can be translated as follows:

Richiusa: V3 A3 III

Verghellu: V3 A3 III

Zoicu: V4 A3 III

Tavignano: V1 A3 II

Vecchio: V1 A2 I
